Green Tea Diet and Weight Loss
The term "Green tea diet" is becoming more popular by day. The benefits of green tea have been successfully confirmed and documented. Green tea has been called a "golden elixir", a "fountain of youth" and a "magic potion that will help you lose weight". Of course there was a green tea diet created that is supposed to help you lose weight fast and feel great.
When I hear a phrase "Green tea diet" I personally imagine that one is only allowed to drink green tea for a certain period of time instead of eating a meal. Like in Low Carb diet you are only allowed to eat food low in carbohydrates and in new fad grapefruit diet you should only eat - you've guessed it!- grapefruits.
Since I was trying to lose a few pounds of my own my curiosity was picked. I made a huge research and here is what I've found out.
There are only two ways to lose weight. First, is to decrease food intake (which is a purpose of any diet, to cut the carbs, calories or fats) second, to increase energy expenditure (which is exercise). What makes green tea so different from other weight loss conceptions is that it expends your energy slowly over the time without boosting your energy level quickly giving you tremors and polyphenols in the green tea aid the digestion of fats.
Green tea in a brewed form or form of an extract does increase metabolism without significantly raising heart rate. It is important because you lower your risk of getting adverse cardiac effects. An average cup of green tea contains only about 4 calories per serving and is most healthy when consumed with nothing added.
For people sensitive to caffeine there are green tea pills.
I was very surprised to find out that there is even a Green Tea Patch that supposedly will help you lose weight. I am very skeptical about it. May be it does work, I've never tried it, but I think it is silly to stick something on your bogy when you can simply have a cup of tea at dinner instead.
Basically I came to a conclusion that there is no actual Green tea diet the way I understood it. All you have to do is make green tea your meal time beverage as they do in Japan and China for centuries. It's especially effective when combined with exercises and a healthy life style, because let's face it - if you eat Big Mac and large fries at Mc Donald's every day, drinking green tea will not make you a super model with a toned body.
